Meet Jayadhara
Jayadhara is my spiritual name meaning ‘flow of victory’, in the Indian tradition a new name indicates that a seeker desires to go further on their spiritual journey. You may call me Jane/Jayadhara/JD, I’m is a lifelong student and spiritual seeker who began yoga at university and from the first was hooked by how it made me feel. I believe in using my ‘yoga toolkit’ to help my own mental and physical health as life’s various challenges come, and I’d love to share these tools and benefits with you.
I’m a 500-hour BWY teacher with over 30 years experience and also train yoga teachers (a Diploma Course Tutor/DCT). Around the millennium I spent several years studying, practicing and travelling in India at ashrams and retreats including Bihar School of Yoga, Rishikesh and Bodh Gaya fulfilling a long-held dream. I also attended the 2001 Kumbh Mela at Haridwar and gained an MA in Yoga Philosophy. I’ve studied and practiced in many styles including Iyengar, Ashtanga, Structural Yoga Therapy, Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy, recently completed Yin Yoga training with Bernie Clarke and Josie de Groot and Integral-Fascial Yoga training with Daniela Meinl.
I use a breath-led, staged approach with props to make practices safer or more demanding accommodating a wide range of abilities. Deep relaxation, including Yoga Nidra and meditation are integral to my teaching. I’m particularly interested in supporting positive mental health through yoga and in helping all students reach their potential. I teach in-person weekly classes in Husthwaite, Easingwold, Thirlby, online Zoom classes, lead workshops, courses, retreats and holidays.
Outside of yoga I love nature, walking, cycling, gardening, and worldwide travel.
“Yoga is not an ancient myth buried in oblivion. It is the most valuable inheritance of the present. It is the essential need of today and the culture of tomorrow” Swami Satyananda Saraswati
Testimonials
“I can recommend JD having practiced with her for over 10 years. No two classes are the same and change with the year which feels very in-tune with the seasons. Online lessons are well prepared and taught with plenty of advice, alternatives give where appropriate and there are levels for beginners and experienced students alike.” Michael G (National Park Director)
“Jayadhara is such an inspiration for me with yoga teaching, so professional, precise, yet kind, understanding and warm. I am so grateful to have her as a teacher.” Fran W (Healer, Guide, Designer and Yoga Teacher)
“From a personal perspective I’ve really appreciated the coaching, reliability, humour and support online sessions have delivered - post session group feedback echoes this. JD’s classes form the drumbeat of my week, they continue to teach & question me, and have been an invaluable support during the Covid pandemic. I recommend JDs classes to everyone, wherever they are in their Yoga journey. You will not find a better yoga student & teacher.” Nikki B (Morrisons Specifications Manager and Yoga Teacher)
“You are like a stick of rock - with Yoga written right through you!” Louisa G (Speech Therapist)
Shiatsu training
I originally followed a three-year Shiatsu training in Sheffield followed by two years study at The Shiatsu College, Newcastle with teachers such as Anne Palmer, Carola Beresford-Cooke and Cliff Andrews. Training included Zen Shiatsu and the foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) along with a host of techniques emphasising tuning into intuition and the importance of connecting to Qi (energy) through perpendicular stationary pressure. I passed the Shiatsu Society Examination in 1995 (MRSS) and offers treatments at my studio in Husthwaite.
Shamanic Training
For many years I was rather apprehensive, even a little fearful about Shamanism and found ways to side-step it. But following the recommendation of a good friend I read ‘The Spirits are always with me’ by Jane Shutt and became fascinated and intrigued, I dared to go on an Introductory Course with her and Christine Mark. After that, despite various doubts I continued my training in Core Shamanism, with these experienced and knowledgeable practitioners, completing Healing the Fractured Soul practitioner training in 2021.
My journey has given me deeper connection to nature, to the belief that all things have a soul and that healing can be triggered by asking for help and guidance in the magical realms of Spirit and that the unexpected and the ordinary are very commonplace there.
